Homemade Bread (Dessert)

中文

I found this Ziploc bag with a date written on it containing a smelly doughy substance. There was a note attached, which I will dictate below:

Important Notes:
  • DO NOT use any type of metal spoon or bowl for mixing
  • DO NOT refrigerate
  • If air gets in the bag, let it out
  • It is normal for the batter to rise, bubble, and ferment

Instructions

Day 1: Do Nothing (this is the date on the bag)
Day 2: Mush the bag
Day 3: Mush the bag
Day 4: Mush the bag
Day 5: Mush the bag
Day 6: Add to bag 1 cup all purpose flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk, then mush the bag
Day 7: Mush the bag
Day 8: Mush the bag
Day 9: Mush the bag
Day 10: Baking Day; Follow instructions below...

  1. Pour entire contents of bag into a non-metal bowl
  2. Add 1.5 cups of all-purpose flour, 1.5 cups of sugar, and 1.5 cups of milk
  3. Measure out 4 separate batter of 1 cup each into 4 one-gallon Ziploc bags. Keep a starter for yourself and give the others to 3 friends along with a link to these instruction. (Be sure to date the bag, especially if you don't pass it on right way)
  4. Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees F
  5. To remaining batter add (mix in):
    - 3 eggs
    - 2 cups all-purpose flour
    - 1 large box intant vanilla pudding
    - 1 cup oil (vegetable oil is most common)
    - 1 cup sugar
    - 0.5 cup milk
    - 2 teaspoons cinnamon
    - 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
    - 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
    - 0.5 teaspoon salt
    - 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  6. Grease 2 large loaf pans (available at your local super market or department store) and mix an additional 0.5 cup sugar and 1.5 teaspoon cinnamon into a separate small bowl. Dust the greased pans with half of this mixture.
  7. Pour the batter evenly into the 2 pans and sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
  8. Bake 1 hour. Cool until the bread loosens from the pan (10 minutes), turn onto serving dish.

If you keep a starter for yourself each time, you will be baking every 10 days. The bread is very good (and sweet) and makes a great gift. Only the Amish know how to create the "starter", so if you give them all away, you will have to wait until someone gives you one back. Enjoy!

Optional: Add fresh fruit or nuts to batter
